Japan
Railways has other convenient ways of obtaining information.
While in Japan you can call the JR East InfoLine in
Tokyo for information in English, Korean and Chinese.
Before departing the U.S. or Canada we can mail you
information including rail pass brochures and our timetable.
See below for more info on these services.
JR provides a convenient telephone information service in English, Korean and Chinese for quick and complete JR information about train time schedules, the fastest JR route from place to place, reserved-seat ticket office locations and other useful information. Reservations are not accepted by this telephone Service.
The JR companies produce a basic timetable and several brochures that may be useful for foreign travelers. If you reside in Canada or the United States, our office in New York can mail you a timetable. Otherwise you can pick up a copy at major stations in Japan.
The small English-language Railway Timetable lists all Shinkansen,
Limited Express and airport shuttle trains. There is a
map in front showing the complete long-distance rail system
with numbers keyed to the appropriate schedules. In addition
there is detailed information on tickets and fares. The
same complete English-language Timetable is now available
in PDF format here on our web site for you to view or
print. Just click Timetable
& Fares to go to there.
A
detailed brochure about the Japan Rail Pass is also available
from our office. This contains the same information as
on the Rail Pass web site.
